Dean Building and Renovations (DB&R)

DB&R is a Marlborough-based building company led by husband-and-wife team Micky and Tash. With over 15 years of building experience and a passion for sustainable design, they specialise in high-quality, energy-efficient homes that balance style with environmental responsibility.

As licensed eHaus builders, DB&R brings contemporary, eco-conscious living to the region — offering clients healthier, smarter homes built to passive house standards. I was approached to help develop a brand identity that reflected their vision — warm, grounded, and distinct in a traditionally conservative industry.

Logo Concept

The logotype features layered linework inspired by traditional Māori weaving techniques — a nod to natural materials, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage. At its centre, a custom ampersand reveals a koru in the negative space, symbolising new life, growth, and strength, while adding a subtle connection to Micky’s whakapapa.

A warm, earthy palette echoes the comfort and energy efficiency of passive homes, while the overall aesthetic remains modern, clean, and approachable. Subtle illustrative texture, drawn by a local artist and family friend, was also used to add depth to the black background — a personalised touch for the owners, and a unique visual detail for the brand.

The brand rollout extended across digital and physical touchpoints — from business cards and vehicle signage to the website and on-site promotional boards. Subtle messaging lines, such as “Build right. Live right” and “Make it right”, were integrated throughout, reinforcing the company’s values and helping to position DB&R clearly within the high-end, sustainable housing market.

The resulting identity is confident, culturally grounded, and purpose-built to stand apart in a competitive market — a true reflection of DB&R’s commitment to quality, innovation, and integrity.
